CPW stocks rainbow trout in Molas Lake

Fishing: There is no fee to fish at Molas Lake and day users are welcome.
Molas Lake is stocked by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) with catchable Rainbow trout. CPW's fish stocking report and report archive lists the most recent dates Molas Lake was stocked. (Hint: Search the year tabs in the report archive for keyword "Molas.")

Day use is allowed from dawn to dusk. There are four(4) day use picnic areas and grills, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The FAQs and Day Use web pages contain additional general info on Molas Lake Park.

Campers and day-anglers need valid Colorado fishing licenses. Licenses can be purchased from Colorado Parks and Wildlife using their online CPW fishing license store. Silverton no longer has a store selling licenses on-site. Check the Colorado Parks and Wildlife fishing web page for current license fees. For comprehensive information, see the full 2024 Colorado Fishing Regulation Brochure published by Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

You'll need to supply your own fishing equipment. Rainbow and brown trout are the most common species in the lake. Molas Lake Store has watercraft rentals, sells basic fishing supplies and bait. Aquatic live bait is prohibited. Cleaning of fish is only allowed at the designated fish cleaning station, and all unwanted fish byproducts must be bagged and discarded in the dumpster. The fish limit is 4 fish per person/per license.

When you are not fishing at Molas Lake, check out the Colorado Fishing Atlas app and interactive map for more places to fish.
